Meet John Milton. He considers himself an artisan. A craftsman. His trade is murder. Milton is the man the government sends after you when everything else has failed. Ruthless. Brilliant. Anonymous. Lethal. You wouldn't pick him out of a crowd but you wouldn't want to be on his list.

In this second dip into his case files (see 1000 Yards for a further novella), Milton is sent to Italy to investigate the death of a colleague from Group 15, the secret assassination squad that liquidates those considered to be impediments to the furtherance of British interests. Milton discovers that the agent was involved with the Camorra, the powerful Mafia clan that controls the territory from Naples to the tip of the Italian boot. He identifies the assassin as a man nicknamed Tarantula. Now Tarantula, and his boss, are entries in Milton's ledger. And all debts need to be paid.

Tarantula A John Milton Short Story (Audible Audio Edition) Mark Dawson David Thorpe Audible Studios Books

The Mafia in Italy is doing business with a family crime team, Curtis Patterson and his brothers in England, drug business for sure! Meanwhile, Control at Group Fifteen, assigns Number Eight, John Milton, to go to Naples. Mission, find Number Three, and stop the Patterson Family, and maybe do some damage to the Mafia?

John Milton is a complicated character, maybe the best assassin Britain has. He is cool and calm while doing his job, but you can already see the emotional toll this takes on Milton. A quick, exciting and entertaining read of one of his many missions!

Tarantula A John Milton Short Story (Audible Audio Edition) Mark Dawson David Thorpe Audible Studios Books Reviews

John Milton, in Mark Dawson's outstanding 4 book series, is a former assassin with demons. In this prequel story, we learn more about Milton, we see and appreciate him at the peak of his profession and we are given some insight into the development of one of Milton's most serious demons and character flaws.

For committed Milton fans, this is essential background reading and an enjoyable foray into the Group 15 days. Foe new readers, this will serve as an illuminating primer for the best action thriller series in popular fiction today.
Refreshing! John Milton is the best hero on ink..Mark Dawson makes him a believable character you like and root for,..but more importantly writes stories with realistic story lines that are fresh, fast paced, totally unpredictable. He surrounds Milton with never ending characters and locations that make you look forward to getting back to the book..(If you are able to put it down)..Just do yourself a favor..when ordering..get them all..this way you wont go through the agony of waiting for your next order!
I actually read Tarantula twice. The stubbornness and disregard for personal safety of John Milton may best be found in this story. I love the Milton stories of when he is still in Group 16, and this is one of them. It's a can't-go-wrong read.
How can Mark Dawson pack so much action into a short novella? You'll have to read this one to find out! But, I have read ALL of Mark's books and can say, without a doubt, that this book is just as gripping as his other, longer ones. I love the idea that we can travel back in time through this book to the main character's (John Milton) early days, prior to his debut in The Cleaner. It's like adding vanilla ice cream to apple pie - the pie is great, but turns totally wonderful with the addition of ice cream! You get to learn a bit more about John Milton's thinking. I hope Mark Dawson keeps writing these novella's and focusing not just on John Milton, but also on Beatrix Rose - another inimitable character I have grown to know and love through Mark's novels about her.

Enough said - get out there, read all of Mark's John Milton and Beatrix Rose novels, and you will be highly entertained for the duration - I guarantee it! )
Yet another winner from Mark Dawson. This novella takes another look back into John Milton's violent past as an operative of the top secret government agency, Group 15. This time around, Milton travels to Naples, Italy to find out what happened to another member of the agency who disappeared while on assignment. Milton must get close to the Italian crime syndicate, the Camorra, gain their trust and pick up where his missing colleague left off. If you like mystery, suspense and action, all wrapped up in a tight little bundle, this book us for you. Highly recommended.
Read this after reading The Cleaner, which I really enjoyed, and caused an immediate craving to read more about John Milton's adventures. I have to admit I went on and bought everything available.

The Tarantula novella rounded out the background info on John Milton's past. Was so entertaining I read it in a single sitting. The story really grabbed and held my attention. Having recently been in the Naples area, I appreciated the location descriptions, which added to the story and were not just space fillers. Mr Dawson's writing style creates a picture of a real man, with genuine thoughts and feelings. It is uplifting to read about someone trying to make amends for actions in his past life by unselfishly helping others.
The prose is precise and descriptive, without being over-wordy. Milton comes across as a believable guy that has a great deal of mental ability and is capable of utilizing it, without coming across as a machine.
First time reader of this author and now i am hooked. This was such a great, easy and creative book. i was hooked after the first page.

The characters were easy to fall in love with and follow, along with the story. the author made the mental visions so easy and vivid of the surroundings and the characters actions felt so real.

i would highly recommend this author and this book.
